RECENT CHANGES TO ONTARIO’S RULES FOR “NO-FAULT” EVICTIONS
Sometimes, a landlord can evict a tenant when the tenant has done nothing wrong. These so-called “no-fault” evictions can happen when:
- the landlord or certain family members or caregivers want to move into the rental unit
- a purchaser or certain family members or caregivers want to move in
- the unit is being demolished
- the unit is being converted into a space that’s not going to be residential
- there are going to be extensive repairs that require a building permit and the unit to be empty
There are 3 changes to the application processes that landlords must follow for no-fault evictions. These changes aim to make it more difficult for landlords to misuse the applications.
