Article excerpts from TB Newswatch:

From potatoes to eggplants, the Good Food Box is celebrating 20 years of helping residents. On the third Wednesday of each month, dozens of community members gather at the Moose Hall, preparing and celebrating the long-standing food security initiative. Roughly 600 boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables are packed and sent out every month to many neighbourhoods throughout Thunder Bay, as well as small communities and First Nations across the district. The monthly boxes feature a wide variety of vegetables, including potatoes, beets, carrots and onions, with some surprises too! Community members will find that each box is also packed with a newsletter that features recipes and preparation information, helping clients make the most of their fruits and vegetables.

The Northwestern Ontario Women’s Centre is also happy to announce that the Good Food Box Program has received a $25,000 ‘Energizing Life Community Fund’ grant from the Hydro One. “We’re hoping to run a lot of different workshops this year to further engage our volunteers and our partners and our customers, and we’re also looking to trial a few new kinds of food boxes,” said Gwen O’Reilly, Executive Director of the NOWC.

At the end of September, the Good Food Box Program hosted as celebration with its volunteers, partners, and community supports at a BBQ event featuring dishes made with locally-sourced food. Thank you to Pitch Creek Farm, Belluz Farms, and Sleepy G Farm for their delicious produce!
