Northwestern Ontario Women’s Centre provides frontline advocacy, support and information to local and regional women experiencing violence, poverty, human rights concerns or problems with access to justice, legal or administrative systems. We also provide public education and training on these issues.
Role Overview
The NOWC Executive Director oversees the strategic direction of the organization and is accountable to the Board of Directors. Their leadership is rooted in intersectional feminism, anti-oppression and decolonial principles. They are responsible for oversight of finances and programming that meets the NOWC mission and for promoting the rights of women, girls, trans and non-binary people. They are responsible for the support and direction of co-workers and volunteers to maintain the organization’s operation. The ideal candidate is a passionate leader on gender equality, an experienced people manager and committed to maintaining a healthy work environment.

Primary Job Responsibilities
- Organizational Leadership and implementation of strategic directives
- Collaboration with an active governing board of directors
- Responsible for fund development, grant writing and reporting
- Oversight of operations and human resources management
- Financial management of organizational budget in accordance with non-profit standards
- Communications and data management oversight
- Oversight of external and member relations
- Supervision of a 5-6 person team plus volunteers and placement students
- Cultivation of a strong organizational culture and supportive development of the strengths of staff members
Qualifications/Professional Experience & Credentials
- Academic credentials consistent with the Executive Director level (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent)
- 5+ years of organizational leadership experience
- Executive management experience
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Demonstrated ability to develop, articulate and execute a strategic plan
- Previous experience leading an organization’s government and community relations
- Demonstrated feminist leadership ability and advocacy
Compensation & Benefits
- Full-time permanent contract within a range of $75,000 – $80,000
- Benefits package provided after successful completion of probation
