Ahoy! We’re Leeks in the Boat from the THUNDER BAY GOOD FOOD BOX PROGRAM and we’re sending out an urgent S.O.S. (Support Our Services) as part of the United Way’s Great Lighthouse Rescue 2025.
The Thunder Bay Good Food Box (GFB) Program is a monthly fruit and vegetable distribution program that aims to increase access to fresh and affordable produce in neighbourhoods, housing buildings, organizations, and participating First Nations year-round. We call these many locations our Host-Sites. In 2024, the Good Food Box packed and distributed 6,451 boxes of fresh fruits and veggies, all of which went to families in Thunder Bay and the region.
This program has a BIG BEET-ING HEART: we are a small but mighty food security program! The Good Box is celebrating 20 years of bringing good food to our community. Over the years, we have gained support from local farmers, producers, makers, and growers, as well as volunteers for each monthly pack, sustaining donors, and community partners.
Our theme for this year’s Great Lighthouse Rescue is MANY LEEKS KEEP THE BOAT AFLOAT – watch our video here or below to hear the story of the Little Leek and the GFB!
Alongside castaways from @uwaytbay funded agencies, we’re asking for donations to help us continue to serve the 500+ families who rely on the Thunder Bay Good Food Box Program each month for access to healthy food.
Please give! Our Leeks will be stranded at the Lighthouse until we reach our goal of $5,000. These funds are critical in ensuring we can continue to provide affordable and low-barrier food access in Thunder Bay and the region!
