In July 2026, there were 2 femicides reported in Ontario. The July OAITH report indicates that among the confirmed cases reported to date, intimate partners (24% or six cases) and family members
(24% or 6 cases) have been charged in 48% of cases. The accused was reported to be known to the victim
in 16% of cases and in one case (4%) there was no prior relationship with the victim and accused. This month, in both cases, the accused had been previously charged for violence perpetrated against the victims and were subject to release orders at the time of the femicides (Reid, 2026; McDonald, 2026).

Since November 26th 2025, there have been 25 femicides were reported in Ontario. In 2024-2025, OAITH tracked a total of 43 femicides within media reports.
Femicide is commonly defined as the intentional murder of women because they are women. OAITH’s femicide definition includes a gender-based killing of a woman, child, trans woman, 2-Spirited Person, or gender non-conforming individual where a man has been charged in relation to the death.
