While we continue to advocate for changes to policies and practices that make women disproportionately vulnerable to violence and poverty, we know that access to some basic material items can still be helpful. We also recognize the importance of taking care of one another, and we know that many NOWC supporters might appreciate an opportunity to extend support to women in our community in other ways.

Informed by our conversations with women who visit the Centre, we share a monthly list of mutual aid items and ask our community to help us bring our new walk-in space to life through community donation requests:

  • Laundry detergent sheets/detergent pods
  • travel size lotions
  • lip chap
  • sunscreen
  • toothpaste
  • combs/hairbrush
  • hair ties
  • deodorant

Purchasing Transit Passes to support NOWC

Assistance with transportation is a frequent request from clients at the NOWC. For supporters wishing to purchase single-ride transit passes for the NOWC to distribute, here is how to best do so:

  • Please to use this link below to order their tickets: Disposable QR Lift Pass Order Form – City of Thunder Bay
  • When ordering, you will need to mention our organization name (Northwestern Ontario Women’s Centre)
  • Please order in advance so that the tickets can be prepared and ready for pickup at the Transit Office (570 Fort William Rd, open Mon-Fri 8:30am – 4:30pm)

If you’d like to donate any of these items, please drop by the Women’s Centre (Monday to Thursday between 9:30am and 5pm) or get in touch with Lori to make alternate arrangements at [email protected]
