As the wildfire response continues to evolve across Northwestern Ontario, community members have been asking how they can help those who have been displaced. While the Emergency Food Plan (EFP) for Thunder Bay has not been officially activated, the plan has been monitoring the situation and standing by for activation in support of food access needs during this crisis. At this time, anyone wishing to support wildfire evacuees and those in our communities who are being affected by this evolving emergency are being asked to send donations directly to the communities or to the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA), the EFP’s procurement partner. Non-perishable food donations, such as bottled water, ready-to-eat snacks, and canned goods that do not require a can opener, are helpful at this time, as are monetary contributions. Donations can be made through the RFDA website (www.foodbanksnorthwest.ca) or dropped off in person at 570 Syndicate Ave.
Financial contributions made directly to affected communities will assist with emergency supplies, temporary shelter, and essential resources. They can be made to:
- Anishinabek Nation in support of Namaygoosisagagun First Nation (Collins) via https://an7gc.ca/donate/
- Whitesand First Nation via Angie Marshall at [email protected] or calling (807) 632 9253 for donations or volunteer support, or via e-transfer to [email protected]. Add your full name to the eTransfer comment section and Whitesand First Nation will issue receipts for tax purposes.

Note that some programs require registration through 211. About the Thunder Bay Emergency Food Plan
The Thunder Bay Emergency Food Plan is a community-led, collaborative strategy that ensures safe, dignified, and equitable food access during emergencies in Thunder Bay. Developed through partnerships between community organizations and the City of Thunder Bay, the Plan complements the municipal Emergency Plan by coordinating food-related preparedness and response activities when activated.
The Plan is collaboratively stewarded by the Food Action Network of Northwestern Ontario, the City of Thunder Bay, the Lakehead Social Planning Council, Canadian Red Cross, Northwestern Ontario Women’s Centre, Regional Food Distribution Association, Roots Community Food Centre, The Salvation Army, Dew Drop Inn, Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre, Thunder Bay District Health Unit, NorWest Community Health Centres, the Thunder Bay District Social Services Administration Board, and many other community partners. It is further supported by the Food Access Coalition: a network of more than 50 organizations and institutions working together year-round to improve food access across Thunder Bay.
