Join for the 22nd Annual Full Moon Memory Walk on Saturday, September 26th from 10am – 1pm at Beendigen (1077 Golf Links Rd). The walk begins at Beendigen, looping around Golf Links Rd and back to Beendigen for a round dance, with BIG Drum Obijwe Alliance attending, and a feast. Organizers encourage folks to take time to walk together or on their own, to honour the memories of those lost.
Carry a photo of a mossing or murdered loved one, in memory of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, men, boys, and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. For more information, please contact Cindy at [email protected]
Sharon Johnson started the commemorative walk 22 years ago and began the walk to remember her sister, and other Indigenous women who have gone missing or been murdered.
Data from Statistics Canada shows that First Nations, Inuit and Métis are overrepresented among victims of violence in Canada. Additionally, the final report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls shows Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be missing or murdered than other women in this country.
