from OCASI:

Honouring Black Feminist Leadership in the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) sector

Black feminists leaders in the GBV sector have been groundbreaking leaders in expanding our knowledge of intersecting inequities that creates and maintain gendered violence. The significant contributions by Black feminist leaders have helped us reimagine responses and reframe our understanding of GBV to include state violence, the harms from an over reliance on the criminal justice system and the need to prioritize community-based responses.

On Thursday, February 23, 2023 1-2:30 PM EST join us for a roundtable discussion with participation from Angela Marie MacDougall (Battered Women Support Services, BWSS), Nneka MacGregor (WomenattheCenter) and Paulette Senior (Canadian Women’s Foundation). This roundtable discussion pays tribute to the ongoing work of Black feminist leadership in the GBV sector and aims to discuss the importance of prioritizing Black-led responses to gendered violence, especially those that elevate survivor-led approaches.
