A new guest post is now available, featuring the text of Jana-Rae Yerxa’s talk at the flag-raising ceremony at City Hall, on March 6.

Every year, NOWC observes International Women’s Day and kicks off the activities during the week of IWD, by raising the flag at City Hall and having a City Proclamation to recognize the day. Our purpose is to acknowledge the history of IWD, bring public attention to the ongoing struggle to achieve equality for women, and to connect this annual global event to women’s everyday lives in our city, here and now.

Our speaker this year was Jana-Rae Yerxa, Aboriginal Community Advocacy Coordinator at Confederation College. She is also known for organizing the walk in support of Barbara Kentner, which took place in January. Jana-Rae graciously offered the text of her talk for publication on our website, and we proudly present it here for your enjoyment and inspiration:
